BOCA AREA POST POLIO GROUP
presents

"Into The Millennium Post-Polio From Head To Toe"

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 19, 2000
EMBASSY SUITES HOTEL, BOCA RATON, FL

Brochure Cover

This is a first for the Boca Area Post Polio Group! A conference -- the first in many years and the first of the new millennium. One thing we have all come to realize over these years of post polio -- we like to share information. Our conference is guaranteed to be filled with the latest information our keynote speaker has to offer. We are very excited to be your hosts for this Saturday of sharing information and getting to know others who, like you, are once again making the most out of our lives. Haven't we always?!

We are most fortunate to have a local as well as a national and international authority on the late effects of polio.

Dr. Richard Bruno, director of The Post-Polio Institute at New Jersey’s Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, will be our guest speaker. Dr. Bruno is a clinical psychophysiologist, specializing in the treatment of stress- related disorders and post-polio sequelae (PPS). He is internationally acknowledged as the foremost expert on PPS.

Dr. Carol Vandenakker, assistant professor of orthopaedics and rehabilitation and medical director of the Rehabilitation Center at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Vandenakker is the clinical director of the University of Miami’s Post Polio Clinic.

We have allotted plenty of time for questions and answers for Drs. Bruno and Vandenakker. There will also be an opportunity for some networking and one-on-one after the conference during happy hour, which will be followed by dinner together with Dr. Bruno and many of the Boca Area Post Polio Group membership.

There will be a special area for vendor exhibits. The vendor exhibits will address all aspects of our lives, from canes and crutches, to wheelchairs and scooters, to braces, AFOs and KAFOs, even a representative from the field of magnets and alternative therapy. We have invited select representatives from industries and services that are most important to post-polio survivors. We have allotted plenty of time so that you can consult with a specific vendor about your particular issue.

The Embassy Suites is conveniently located at Yamato Road and I-95. There is valet parking available, so that there will be no hassle over where to park. There is also a Tri-Rail station for those who may choose to come by train from West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale or Miami.

We know that this will be a memorable day filled with conversation, information, good food, fun and a few surprises.
