DIRECTIONS TO TOURO MEDICAL UNIVERSITY:
Vallejo - gateway to The Napa Valley Wine Country; attractions include Six Flags Marine World, Jelly Belly Factory, Budweiser Brewery, Sears Point Raceway, and access via a short but pleasant ferry ride to historic San Francisco and Pier 39 at Fisherman's Wharf.
Vallejo, CA is located on the east side of San Francisco Bay on Interstate 80. Touro University is located on Mare Island, a former U.S. Navy shipyard Location Address: 14th Street on Mare Island, Building H-86.
From Interstate 80, take the Vallejo exit for "Tennessee/Mare Island" and go about 2 miles through Vallejo on Tennessee. Tennessee becomes the "MareIsland Causeway" at a security booth.
Tell the security guard you are attending the post-polio meeting at Touro University. Then proceed across the Causeway and go 1 mile until the road ends at Cedar Avenue. Turn left on Cedar. Follow Cedar about 1.5 miles. The road will curve to the left and become 14th Avenue. Keep to the left on 14th.
Take the first driveway to the right to enter the campus. You'll see a blue and white Touro sign near the road and also "Combat System Technical School Command" on the brick wall at this entrance. The auditorium (Building H-86) is located at the deadend of this street.
The parking lot directly in front of the auditorium is reserved for the disabled. Additional parking is available in nearby parking lots. Attendants will be available to direct you.
LODGING for "Post-Polio Update 2000" conference:
A block of rooms is reserved at the reduced rate of $59-$75, plus 11% tax, for March 17th-19th at the Ramada Inn Vallejo, 1000 Admiral Callaghan Lane, Vallejo CA, for conference attendees. Rates include complimentary deluxe continental breakfast. All rooms are furnished with coffee makers, microwaves, refrigerators, and remote-control color TVs with pay-per-view movies, two telephones with data ports and voice mail message center. Additional amenities include laundry, fax and copy services, room service provided by Lyon's family restaurant, heated pool and spa. Black Angus, Olive Garden, Applebee's, and many other restaurants are close by.
The hotel's front desk can arrange for free minivan shuttle transportation to anywhere in Vallejo, including the Ferry Terminal and Touro University, but not Marine World. If she is not available to take your call, leave your name and number and she will get back to you. Only bookings through Tara-lee qualify for this reduced rate. Reservations must be made by March 13th.
One of Ramada Inn's conference rooms has been donated for use as a Hospitality Suite, so that polios attending the conference can get to know each other better. It will be available Saturday night from 5pm-9pm. The comfortable lobby as well as the adjoining patio are for our use as well.
Evans Airport Service, Inc. provides almost every half hour bus service from Oakland Airport and San Francisco Airport to Vallejo and vice versa. Holiday Inn Vallejo is the central location Evans uses for drop-off and pickup, but Evans does phone Ramada to arrange for Ramada's minvan to be at Holiday Inn to transport passengers to Ramada Inn. Ramada will also shuttle folks to Holiday Inn for catching Evans Airport Service. Fares are $17 one way. Reservations required. Phone 1-800-428-5612 or 1-707-255-1559.
